This is my first time logging into Moodle - what is my username and password?

Your username is the first initial of your first name + your last name + the last 3 digits of your Student ID#

Password: An uppercase “H” + lowercase “cc” + the last six digits of your HCC ID number.
Ex. John Smith 000123456 = Hcc123456

Why can't I log in?

There could be many reasons but the most probably is you have simply forgotton your password, are trying the wrong one or are entering it incorrectly. Some other things to think about include:
  • Does your username and password contain a mixture of upper and lower case letters? It should be entered exactly.
  • Are cookies enabled on your browser?

  • Check that you are logged in to Moodle.
  • Confirm your registration in that course through the Registrar's Office.
  • Ensure your instructor is using Moodle. Not all instructors do.
  • If you have recently enrolled in the course after the start of classes, please allow 24 hours for your enrollment to be processed by Moodle.

Your browser has an idle timeout of 30 minutes. If you are inactive for 30 minutes, you will be automatically logged out and your unsaved results may be lost because of the inactivity.

How can I reduce the amount of scrolling needed to get to later lessons in a course in Moodle?

To the right of each numbered topical or weekly areas in a course you should see a rectangle. Click once on the rectangle of the desired topic or week to hide all other numbered topical or weekly areas, leaving the top section of the course and the selected topic or week visible. There will now be a double rectangle to the far right of the visible topic or week. Clicking on the double rectangle will return you to the previous display of seeing all topics or weeks.

When I click on the link to view a PDF file, it just hangs and doesn't download or open the file?

You may need to update the version of Adobe Reader on your PC. Go to Adobe Reader (http://get.adobe.com/reader/) and download the latest version. Once the install is complete, try clicking on the file link again in Moodle and the document should open immediately.
